A relaxed trek in the shadow of the Annapurnas
This is an excellent introduction to trekking in Nepal. This easy but exciting short trek takes you to the most picturesque part of Nepal, via established tracks. En route, tucked against the terraced hills, you will encounter beautiful Gurung and Magar villages that afford inspiring views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges as well as the beautiful pinnacle of Machapuchhare (Fishtail). Trekking through the largest rhododendron forest and a short excursion up to Poon Hill will make for an unforgettable experience.
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu (1,330m)
Day 2 In Kathmandu, sightseeing Kathmandu Valley
Day 3 Drive to Pokhara (820m) and on to Phedi (1,130m); commence trek on established trail to Dhampus (1,650m)
Day 4/5 Continue through terraced fields to the prosperous Gurung village of Ghandruk (1,940m) with stunning views of Annapurna South (7,219m)
Day 6/7 Trek through dense rhododendron forests to Ghorepani (2,750m) and the famous view point of Poon Hill (3,193m)
Day 8 Early morning ascent of Poon Hill for sunrise views; descend to Birethanti and end trek at Nayapul (1,070m); short drive to Pokhara to stay by the lake
Day 9 Take the spectacular but short flight to Kathmandu
